Second Seeds Fall and Two Retirements Reshape the Semi-finals at FIP Silver Bali 2026

Twenty-four matches at Island Sports in Bali on Saturday, 15 August took the FIP Silver Bali 2026 from sixteen pairs to four in each draw, and both semi-final line-ups were reshaped by results the seedings had not predicted. Two women's matches ended in retirement.

The men's headline belonged to Cristobal Garcia Blanco (ESP) and Sajad Zareianjahromi (IRI). Unseeded all week, they beat the eighth seeds Bohou Zhang (CHN) and Enzo Chua (SGP) 6-2, 6-3 in the last sixteen, then ended the tournament of the second seeds Miguel Melero Bernal (ESP) and Pablo Pastor Landaburu (ESP) 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Melero Bernal and Pastor Landaburu had arrived in Bali as separate winners of earlier Indonesian legs this year, and their departure removed the week's most-watched pairing.

The third seeds had already gone. Miguel Gonzalez (ESP) and Adrian Ronco Lopez (ESP) were beaten 6-3, 6-2 in the round of sixteen by Carlos Perez Cabeza (ESP) and Juan Carlos Gama Gonzalez (ESP), who then ran into the fifth seeds Sergio Icardo (UAE) and Jordi Casanova Bataller (ESP) and lost 7-6(2), 6-2.

The top seeds Marcos Gonzalez Blanco (ESP) and Martin Abud (PAR) needed tie-breaks in both matches, coming past the qualifiers Raul Jerez Miranda (ESP) and David Quiros Peiro (ESP) 7-6(2), 6-4 and then Sergio Esteban Barroso (ESP) and Arturo Miguel Hernando Nuñez (ESP) 7-6(2), 6-4. The fourth seeds Miguel Morales (ESP) and Borja Trujillo Chang (ESP) completed the men's semi-final field by beating the sixth seeds Ignacio Alonso Chillaron (ESP) and Guillermo Fernandez Sanchez (ESP) 6-4, 6-4.

Indonesia's last men's pair fell in the round of sixteen, Mike Tanoso and Bryan Husin losing 6-2, 6-3 to the fifth seeds after their marathon win the previous evening.

In the women's draw the eighth seeds Jimena Diaz De La Iglesia (ESP) and Alba Vazquez Gracia (ESP) produced the result of the day, beating the third seeds Victoria Kurz (GER) and Anastasiia Ryzhova (RUS) 7-5, 6-2 in the quarter-finals. Kurz had come to Bali as the winner of the Bronze event in Banten a month earlier.

Elsa Terranova (ITA) and Angelina Neizvestnaya (RUS), unseeded and reunited after winning the Jakarta title together in July, reached the last four the hard way. Their round-of-sixteen match against the fourth seeds Aitana Garcia Roman (ESP) and Ainize Santamaria Landa (ESP) ended in retirement at 7-6(5), 4-6, 4-0, and they then beat the fifth seeds Sandra Bellver Fructuoso (ESP) and Feity Lesmana 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 in a quarter-final that ran the full distance.

That quarter-final marked the end of Indonesia's tournament. Feity Lesmana had reached the last eight alongside Bellver Fructuoso after a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tatyana Kutulaeva (UZB) and Lucila Guerrero (ARG), the most emphatic result of the women's day. Vivien Silfany and Kintan Pratiwi Anwar Anwar had gone out in the round of sixteen, beaten 6-1, 6-3 by the eighth seeds.

The second seeds Carla Fernandez Gonzalez (ESP) and Nerea Guerra Santana (ESP) reached the semi-finals when their quarter-final against the sixth seeds Eugenia Guimet (ESP) and Patricia Araus López (ESP) ended in retirement at 6-4, 2-1. The top seeds Maria Virginia Riera (ARG) and Zahra Kahrizi (IRI) were untroubled throughout, dropping one game across two matches.

Sunday brings the semi-finals and finals in both draws.
