Sabatini Into the Semi-finals as Watupongoh and Edison Stun the Eighth Seeds at FIP Bronze Banten 2026

Saturday, 18 July at Dewa United Padel was the longest day of FIP Bronze Banten 2026, with 24 matches taking both draws from the last sixteen to the semi-finals — and it belonged to Indonesia's women.

Fitriani Sabatini and Jessica Lucinda Palma La Cruz (VEN), the sixth seeds, produced the result that carried the home audience into Sunday. After a routine 6-0, 6-1 win over qualifiers Nahla Aufa Dhia Ulhaq and Oxi Gravitas Putri in the last sixteen, they met fourth seeds Elisabeth Nogueras (ESP) and Kotomi Ozawa (JPN) in the quarter-finals and won a shifting three-setter 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to reach the semi-finals.

The day's biggest upset came from an unseeded all-Indonesian pair. Christine Caroline Watupongoh and Samantha Edison beat eighth seeds Feity Lesmana and Melati Anhar 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the last sixteen, holding their nerve through a deciding set that stayed on serve until the closing games. Their quarter-final against second seeds Dora Chamli (TUN) and Anastasiia Ryzhova (RUS) proved a step too far, ending 0-6, 0-6, but a run to the last eight from outside the seedings was the standout Indonesian story of the week so far.

Karyn Emeralda and Alejandra Aygües Lezana (ESP) removed a second seeded pair, edging seventh seeds Sayaka Yoshimoto (JPN) and Beatrice Gumulya 7-6(3), 6-1 after taking a tight opening tiebreak. They were beaten 6-1, 6-3 in the quarter-finals by third seeds Elsa Terranova (ITA) and Angelina Neizvestnaya (RUS).

Fifth seeds Carla Serrano Gonzalez (ESP) and Novela Putria also reached the last eight, beating Fitriana Sabrina and Kholisa Siti Maisaroh 6-2, 6-2 before losing 2-6, 2-6 to top seeds Victoria Kurz (GER) and Marcella Koek (NED).

In the men's draw the two lucky losers outperformed the qualifiers. Ollie Bartosh (NZL) and Francisco Mendieta Ruiz (COL) beat qualifiers Muhammad Rafly and Muhammad Al Furqan 7-5, 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals, where fifth seeds Carlos Marti and Marc Bernils Garcia (ESP) stopped them 6-2, 7-6(4). Aldiyar Muzdybayev and Zhakas Kozbak (KAZ) came through the tightest match of the men's last sixteen, beating I Putu Anandana Adi Guna and Ahmad Baidzuri 7-6(6), 7-5, before losing 2-6, 2-6 to second seeds Julian Prins and Youp De Kroon (NED).

Indonesia's men found the last sixteen a hard ceiling. Brothers Armando and Giorgio Soemarno were beaten 2-6, 4-6 by fourth seeds Pablo Pastor Landaburu (ESP) and Kevin Uriel Kviatkovski (ARG), and Mike Tanoso and Christian Alvin Edison pushed eighth seeds Omar Salem (HUN) and Zar Lasahido to a second-set tiebreak before falling 3-6, 6-7(4). Lasahido went on to reach the quarter-finals, where he and Salem lost 1-6, 2-6 to top seeds Miguel Melero Bernal (ESP) and Nicolas Zurita (ITA). Erwan Wiyono and Ivan Montes Balleste (ESP) were beaten 2-6, 0-6 by the same pair a round earlier.

The semi-finals are set. In the men's draw Melero Bernal and Zurita meet Marti and Bernils Garcia, while Pastor Landaburu and Kviatkovski face Prins and De Kroon. In the women's draw Kurz and Koek play Palma La Cruz and Sabatini, and Terranova and Neizvestnaya meet Chamli and Ryzhova. All four semi-finals and both finals are played on Sunday.
