Both Indonesian women into the last eight
Third seeds Novela Putria and Beatrice Gumulya joined their compatriots in the quarter-finals on Wednesday 30 September, beating Iran's Sahabeh Fard and Zahra Kahrizi 6-3 6-1 in the round of 16 at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center.
With Kusumawati and Sabatini already through on Day 2, Indonesia now has both women's pairs in the quarter-finals. Putria and Gumulya will face Hong Kong's Hiu Laam Chan and Yik Yan Law next.
Men's campaign ends against the hosts
Indonesia's last men's pair bowed out. Eighth seeds Valentinus Dyas and Armando Soemarno, playing their first match after a first-round bye, lost 6-3 6-4 to Japan's Teruaki Ando and Shinnosuke Nakamura, who were backed by a loud home crowd.
Women's event
Day 3 delivered three-set drama throughout the women's round of 16.
Hong Kong's Chan and Law came from a set down to beat the Philippines' Tao Tan and Marian Capadocia 5-7 6-4 6-4, the first defeat of the Games for the Philippine team. Law told the FIP that being the first to represent Hong Kong in padel at the Asian Games was fantastic.
Saudi Arabia's Areej Fareh and Alanoud Yamani beat Thailand's Natalie Narkprasert and Dares Srirungreang 6-1 6-7(0) 7-6(7) after around three hours of play, saving the decisive tie-break by the narrowest of margins.
The Philippines' Danna Abad and Joshea Malazarte also needed three sets to beat Hong Kong's Wing Yau Chan and Hiu Wai Lau 6-1 6-7(6) 6-3. Iran's Saba Najafidehaghi and Neda Mohammadtaghipour recovered from losing the first set to beat Malaysia's Melanie Lau and Sharifah Wan 3-6 6-4 6-1.
Second seeds Saki Tsukamoto and Kae Tokumoto of Japan were untroubled, beating the United Arab Emirates' Fatma Janahi and Aishah Alawadhi 6-0 6-1.
Men's event
Top seeds Mashari and Rashed Naif of Qatar opened their campaign with a 6-1 6-0 win over Kuwait's Abdulaziz Redha and Fouad Behbehani. The United Arab Emirates' Fares Aljanahi and Abdulla Alabdulla won by the same score against the Philippines' Abdulqoahar Allian and Raymark Gulfo.
Iran's Hami Golestan and Arya Roghani beat Hong Kong's Mohammed Khan and Sean Lo Escoto 6-1 6-0, while the Philippines' Jason Lapidus and Argil Canizares beat Hong Kong's Kwan Chau and Lok Lo 6-2 6-2.
Third seeds Christian Chin and Aidan Yunus of Malaysia were pushed to three sets by Kazakhstan's Timur Khabibulin and Yevgeniy Danilov before winning 6-2 3-6 6-3. Chin told the FIP that every padel win feels like a win shared with the whole of Malaysia.
