Indonesia's women get going
Indonesia's women's campaign at the XX Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 began on Tuesday 29 September with a near-perfect performance. Seventh seeds Fadona Kusumawati and Fitriani Sabatini dropped just one game against Kuwait's Mariam Alsarraj and Dalal Alqenaei, winning 6-1 6-0 in the round of 16.
The result sent the Indonesians into a quarter-final against the tournament's top seeds and home favourites, Chifumi Sato and Kotomi Ozawa.
Women's event
Japan's top seeds made their own winning start in the round of 16, beating Qatar's Alya Murad and Maha Faramarzi 6-1 6-4. Ozawa told the FIP she could see family, friends and Japanese flags in the crowd during the match.
The first round was also completed on Day 2, and it produced the most moving story of the day. Thailand's Natalie Narkprasert and Dares Srirungreang beat Kuwait's Noor Hasan and Zenab Sarkhoo 7-5 6-3. For Narkprasert, the win came after a year out following a complete tear of her ACL and meniscus. She told the FIP she had to learn to walk again after a doctor said she would never play sport again.
Iran's Sahabeh Fard and Zahra Kahrizi beat Qatar's Dana Al-Mudahka and Hanan Al-Abdulrahman 6-0 6-2 to set up a round-of-16 match against Indonesia's Novela Putria and Beatrice Gumulya. The Philippines' Tao Tan and Marian Capadocia beat Kazakhstan's Mariya Sinitsyna and Albina Khabibulina 6-3 2-6 6-2, and the United Arab Emirates' Fatma Janahi and Aishah Alawadhi beat Lebanon's Lilya Messaike and Maria Breidy 6-3 7-6(4).
