Adria Mercadal and Raid Rahmat Laleno Mamat keep finding ways forward. On Day 3 of the FIP Bronze Yogyakarta 2026, the Spanish-Indonesian pair faced the only seeded qualifier from Thursday's chaos — Muhammad Nuzhul Patoreang Ijul and Afullah Muhsyarif Aul, the No. 3 seeds in qualifying who were the lone seed to survive Day 2 — and beat them in three sets, 6–2, 6–7, 6–2, on Dome B.
It is a result that quietly tells a story about both pairs. Mercadal and Mamat came into Friday with a perfect run from qualifying: a 6–3, 6–2 win over the No. 2 seeded Power and Anshari, then a 6–0, 6–0 win over Akbar and Sultan in the qualifying final. They had not dropped a set. Ijul and Aul did what no opponent had managed all week — taking a set off them in the tie-break — but could not turn momentum into a match. Mercadal and Mamat took the deciding set 6–2.
The win sends Mercadal–Mamat into the Round of 16, where they are now four matches into a tournament run that started as a qualifying campaign. They have lost one set, won eight, and accumulated a body of work that the rest of the bracket will have noticed. For Ijul and Aul, Day 3 closes a tournament in which they came through qualifying as the only surviving seeds — a story that ends in the main draw, but a story worth telling.
The other qualifiers from Day 2 had mixed fortunes on Day 3: Christian Alvin Edison and Achad Imam Maruf came through 6–2, 7–5 against Putu Adi Guna and Edward Revilla, while Sunu Wahyu Trijati and Iqbal Bilal Saputra fell 6–4, 6–3 to Alvaro Fuertes and Vivin Wibawa. From the four qualifiers who started the day, two are still alive.
